The use of lightweight materials is one of the key technologies in the automotive and aircraft industry. Hybrid constructions made of various materials (high-strength and ultrahigh-strength steels, aluminum, magnesium and, at high temperatures, titanium aluminides, chromium silicides or ceramic-fiber reinforced materials) are frequently used. At DECHEMA research institute new joining technologies and specific corrosion or oxidation protection concepts for such materials are going to be developed.
