Electrolysis and electrosynthesis

Electrolysis and electrosynthesis

The focus topic electrolysis and electrosynthesis may significantly contribute to the substitution of fossil resources and energy sources. The advantages of electric current as reaction component in synthesis are, among others, its high selectivity and control of reaction kinetics. Thereby, electrochemical processes fulfil the majority of criteria of a "green chemistry" process and may contribute to the flexibilization and stabilization of future current grits. Intensive and interdisciplinary collaborations between the research groups Industrial Biotechnology, Technical Chemistry, and Electrochemistry are the basis for the development of new synthesis routes. Thereby, the routes range from enzymatic and microbial catalysts over methods for CO2 fixation to high temperature electrolysis and on-site electrolysis concepts (e.g. disinfectants).
