Together with the project partners Hochschule Geisenheim University (leading) and Justus Liebig University Gießen, DECHEMA-Forschungsinstitut will receive a LOEWE funding of 4,395,648 Euro for the research project “AROMAplus – from plant resources to microbial production – aroma and functional ingredients from vine and fruit”.
The goal of this LOEWE focus is to better understand the mechanisms of formation of aroma and functional ingredients and to use this knowledge to develop biotechnological procedures in order to build new value-added chains based on local plant resources. Its uniqueness lies in the approach of using the complementary setup of partners in order to build a bridge from wine- and fruit-growing via biology of microbial processes to biotechnological production. As one of the founders and one of three involved research institutes, DFI plays a central role in the project, which is scheduled to start on 1 January 2018 with a period of 4 years.
