Minister Boris Rhein hands over the document confirming the LOEWE grant to Dr. Markus Buchhaupt, head of the Industrial Biotechnology group at DFI, for the research focus AROMAplus. Dr. Buchhaupt cunducts the work at DFI together with Prof. Dr. Jens Schrader, executive board of the foundation.
The research activities of the LOEWE focus AROMAplus, which is conducted at the DFI together with Hochschule Geisenheim (HGU) and Justus Liebig University Gießen, have already started at the beginning of the year. Last Thursday, science minister Boris Rhein (CDU) handed over the grant confirmation document covering almost 4.4 million Euros to HGU president Hans Reiner Schultz and the according documents to the representatives of the three institutes. Boris Rhein and Petra Müller-Klepper, member of the Hessian parliament, used the festive act in Geisenheim to learn about the research questions and goals of the project supported by the federal state Hesse and about the expertise of the research institutes. Their close co-operation should help understand the mechanisms of synthesis of flavourings and functional substances in order to build new value chains based on plant resources from local economy. The focus of DFI is on developing biotechnological production processes for flavourings, but also on new enzymes and micro-organisms for beverage production.
