DECHEMA Research Institute repositions itself: Focus on energy and raw materials transition

2021-04-14 |

The DECHEMA Research Institute will operate under new management and a new structure from 1 June 2021. In the future, all research activities will be bundled in the two areas of "Materials and Corrosion" and "Chemical Engineering". Associate Prof. Dr.-Ing. Mathias Galetz and Dr. Jonathan Bloh will jointly head the institute.

The DECHEMA Research Institute Foundation is intensifying its interdisciplinary research into sustainable plant and process concepts and will be focusing even more strongly on materials research and chemical engineering in the future. The new technologies of the energy and raw materials turnaround will play a central role here.

The research will be bundled in two closely cooperating areas "Materials and Corrosion" and "Chemical Engineering". The Board of Trustees appoints Associate Prof. Dr.-Ing. Mathias Galetz, previously a member of the Executive Board, as Chairman of the Executive Board and Dr. Jonathan Bloh, previously Head of Technical Chemistry, as a new member of the Executive Board with effect from 1 June 2021. Together they form the new institute management. Mathias Galetz takes over as Head of Materials and Corrosion Research, Jonathan Bloh as Head of Chemical Engineering.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wolfram Fürbeth, Head of Corrosion, will move from the institute's management to the position of Head of the DECHEMA Corrosion Center with effect from 1 June 2021, in order to expand its range of services in the field of renewable energies.

In the course of the restructuring, Prof. Dr. Jens Schrader will resign from his mandate as Chairman of the Board of Management by best mutual agreement as of 31 May 2021, but will remain closely associated with the institute in an advisory capacity.

Dr. Hans Jürgen Wernicke, Chairman of the Board of Trustees: "With this realignment, the DECHEMA Research Institute is acting with foresight in order to provide the best possible support for the energy and raw material transformation of our industrial society with its proven expertise. The DECHEMA Research Institute is thus focusing on future-oriented topics in close cooperation with DECHEMA e.V. and DECHEMA Ausstellungs-GmbH. The Board of Trustees thanks Prof. Schrader for his many years of successful work, most recently as Chairman of the Board and co-designer of the reorientation of the Research Institute."
