Abstract

This study reports the testing of a polyethersulfone (PES) membrane as an alternative separator to conventional glass fibers (GF) in aluminium–graphite batteries (AGBs) using an aprotic EMIMCl/AlCl3 electrolyte. At a charge rate of 0.1 A g−1 and a discharge rate of 1 A g−1, the AGB with the PES membrane demonstrated superior capacity and reduced self-discharge compared to the GF-based cell.
