Suitable concepts for corrosion protection are an economic factor and make a significant contribution to resource efficiency. In this way corrosion damages can be avoided being of immense importance in many technical applications. Research in the fields of corrosion and high temperature materials focusses on the development of protective coatings. Among this is the development of diffusion layers for high temperatures by slurry methods or pack cementation. In the field of aqueous corrosion the research is characterized by the application of chemical nanotechnology for the coating matrix as well as for coating modification. In addition new ways of generation of the coating matrix are being used and further developed like e.g. a surface treatment using high-power ultrasound or plasma-electrolytic oxidation.
