The development of new coating technologies is an interdisciplinary research area in all working groups of the institute. The focus lies on the development of sol-gel layers and nanoparticulate thin layers via dip-coating, spin-coating, screen printing, layer-by-layer and doctor blade processes. Calendering is used for the production of battery electrodes and catalysts. Ultrasonic-assisted spray coatings and oxide layer growth, as well as (Plasma)anodizing and sputtering processes for corrosion and wear protection coatings extend the range of the used technologies. For the application at high temperatures and aggressive atmospheres, diffusion protection layers are developed by slurry techniques and pack cementation.
