The aim of the research project is the development of a platform technology for the bioconversion of glucose and amino acids from renewable resources to natural compounds for the specialty chemicals industry. By combining modern molecular biology and process engineering an efficient bioprocess will be developed.

The technological base of the process is an integrated bioprocess which uses the biochemical potential of genetically optimized yeasts.
Many yeast species are able to convert amino acids to the corresponding alcohol. In the following metabolism acetate esters can additionally be synthesized. Carbohydrates serve as carbon- and energy source of the bioconversion. From the multitude of substrates that can be metabolized by the yeast a high number of compounds result which can be produced according to the same biotechnological principle. The products share their quality as raw material for the specialty chemicals industry with broad application in the perfume-, cosmetics-, food- and pharmaceutical industry.
