The industrialized society of the future will be based on the acceptance of applied technologies and will have a greater dependence on the availability of resources. However, natural deposits are limited, and the technology of today often pushes ecological and political boundaries. Therefore we strive to develop alternatives and conduct research in the area of sustainable technology. For this, we use our knowledge of biotechnology, materials science, and chemical engineering, which we have accumulated over decades.
We cooperate closely with our commercial and academic partners. The institute's leading scientists are also involved in academic teaching and in several professional associations, for example DECHEMA e.V.
These contacts provide us with a powerful research network and allow us to address new topics at an early stage of development.
The foundation "DECHEMA-Forschungsinstitut" was created on March 1, 2012 by a group of commercial and private benefactors. The Karl Winnacker Institute of DECHEMA, first established in 1961, was merged into this foundation at that time.
The institute employs engineers, chemists, biologists, materials scientists, technicians, and experts in other disciplines, all working together on trend-setting topics. The structure of the institute can be seen in the organizational chart.
