The manager of a sewage plant close to Braunschweig is working on an exciting pilot project with DECHEMA-Forschungsinstitut: With the help of microbial fuel cells the sewage plant is to be used as an energy buffer.     New BMBF project to develop biotechnological production processes for chiral substances

    Chiral substances play an important role in the production of fine chemicals, especially pharmaceuticals. The project investigates the development of possibilities for biotechnological synthesis of chemicals from methanol. Using this biomass conversion product as basis of all developments is also an important contribution to the biologisation of chemistry.

    Around 50 international junior scientists met with representatives of academia and industry

    Together with VAAM, DECHEMA-Forschungsinstitut (DFI) organised this year its fourth international Summer School "Biotransformations 2017" in Hannover. Between 16 and 19 July the participants had the opportunity to discuss with high-ranking experts from industry and science about topics such as protein discovery 2.0, production host development, downstream processing, and many more. PhD students from DFI also attended the conference.

    Research project AROMAplus receives 4.4 million Euro LOEWE funding

    Together with the project partners Hochschule Geisenheim University (leading) and Justus Liebig University Gießen, DECHEMA-Forschungsinstitut will receive a LOEWE funding of 4,395,648 Euro for the research project “AROMAplus – from plant resources to microbial production – aroma and functional ingredients from vine and fruit”.

    MIKE makes biogas plants more efficient: New BMBF Project launched about the material use of CO2

    Higher biogas yield, no complex CO2 separation, and excess electricity is used reasonably: All of this is the goal of MIKE, the BMBF project "Methanation of CO2 from biogas by microbial electrosynthesis", which was launched on 1 September 2016.
